The Treasures of Chingford Mount

‘The Treasures of Chingford Mount’ is a community engagement project, bringing local people together to explore their local area, through play.

Chingford Mount is a town centre in East London. Partnering with WeTheSeeds Agency and TD 360 we were engaged to lead the branding identity for the project, for Waltham Forest Council.

Through a process of community focus groups, and in person interviews, we researched local residents’ and business owners’ relationships to the local area, listening to their individual histories and discovering aspects that resonated for them.

Inspired by the local 1930’s history we created a colourful, accessible identity design, centred around the central art-deco architectural features around the ‘Mount’.

Through interaction with window-art displays along the high street, local residents playfully engaged with their local geographical area, discovering new information or ‘treasures’ through a gamified process involving an interactive-map accessed via mobile phone, revealing information around them of the local area.

The project unearthed hidden local historical secrets, personal untold stories and encouraged active engagement, breathing new life into a deprived area. It engaged with local businesses and created new connections within the community.
